January 2016 meeting

A new year! We didn't have a program this month but several of our members talked about and discussed all the different things our group does for others, community service quilts, heart pillows, Quilts of Valor and the church quilt.   We try to do programs each year on these.  Next month, we will be making heart pillows for breast cancer patients.  Last year we made and donated around 180-190 pillows.   Glenda passed out a pattern for the heart pillows.  It takes about 1/2 yard of fabric for the pillow.  Please sew them up and bring them to the meeting to stuff and finish.  If you want to finish them before the meeting, please feel free to do that too.

Here are some community service quilts from Diane.

Here's a quilt of Valor quilt by Lori.

Deanna made this from 2 1/2" strips.  This is a quilt made from the strip club at the Watt A Find Quilt Shop.

This is Linda's version of the above heart quilt.  This is for her sister Rose.  Almost all of the fabric has roses in it.

Here's another one of Linda's quilts, the Tartus (Dr. Who) quilt.

Here's my quilt top I made from a workshop I went to a few weeks ago.  This is the carpenter star quilt. Yes, I had a mistake on it and it has been fixed....Thanks, Diana for pointing it out to me...I really appreciate you telling me.  I would have hated to quilt this and see the mistake after it was quilted..

this is going to be a baby sheet for Jeanette's new grandson.

Glenda made this cute make up bag.

Here's a cute little wall hanging.

Here's a community service quilt.

Here's a floating 4 patch quilt.  We swapped blocks for this one...

Ah, here's her scrappy pineapple quilt. A lot of us are working on these.  This is a fun quilt to make.  Glenda worked on this at retreat and it was fun to see her blocks come together.

Here's an antique quilt top a friend of hers gave her.

Here's a T-shirt quilt she made for a friend.

Here's Sandy's lovely Log Cabin Trails quilt.

Here's some little quilts our visitor, Margaret made.

Here's last year's church quilt...Lovely

Here's a quilt our lovely Sally made. It is made with Kaffe Fassett fabric.

Here's the back of the quilt.

Martha made this wallhanging. Yes, it's a house.

Here's some of Diana's great quilts.

Here's a crocheted blanket.

Look at the label, so cute.

A close up of some of the blocks on the quilt.

Ok, that's it for this month.  Next month, we will be working on heart pillows.  Go ahead and sew up your pillows and they can be stuffed and finished at the meeting.  Have a good month and happy stitching.

June meeting

Our June meeting was a working meeting. We worked on Covers for kids quilts.   It was fun to see the kits come to life.  I can't wait to see the finished quilts next month...Our members were busy.

We did have a little bit of show and tell.  Here's Sandy's chicken quilt. So cute. This was a swap we did and Sandy's is finished.  My blocks are still clucking away on my design wall.

The back of the quilt.  So cute.

Annalee has worked on this little project for a while but she's finally finished.  So sweet. The embroidery work is beautiful.

Well ladies, next month we are meeting at Thomas Sewing Center in Mesquite.  More info will be coming to you with the newsletter.  Get busy and get sewing. Bring your show and tell and brag a lot!  Til next time, happy stitching.
