August Meeting- another year ends and a new one begins!

This month was our annual picnic.  I have no idea why it's called a picnic as we don't go outside and sit on the ground or go to the park or whatever....Anyway, this is the month that new leaders are named and our old year comes to an end.  New programs are talked about and other members take over doing various jobs.  It's been a fun year and next year sounds great....Each year as a way of saying thank you to our leaders, we make quilt blocks.  The pattern was the same pattern but we did different themes of fabric for each leader.  For Bev, the theme was 30's fabrics.  Since she is a scrapper, each little block was different.   Deanna likes Batiks so her blocks were two different fabrics of batiks.

Thank you ladies for a wonderful year.

Sharon was the poster board for showing some of the lovely blocks.

Some of Deanna's blocks.  (Remember, if you click on the pictures, you can see them up closer)

I can't wait to see your quilts ladies.   Have fun with the blocks.

Also, you see the little owls in front or our leaders.  These were so cute.  Thank you to Linda B and anyone else that made these.  They were adorable.  Notice, I said were?  That means I didn't win one!

Now for some show and tell from our members

This one is Sharon's, It is a floating 4 patch quilt.  She is having block exchanges on this one.

Here's the back of the quilt.

This is a quilt she will be teaching at the new quilt shop in downtown Mesquite soon.  The shop is moving on Main next week and is called Pieced Together.  More info available soon.

This is an appliqued piece from Cathy.  Very lovely.

One of Sandy's beautiful quilts.  She did this a first Saturday sample from The Old Craft Store in Carrollton,  You pay for the first block and take in the finished block the next month and get it free. Of course, the finishing kit you pay for.  I miss Suzy's Quilt shop so much, I used to do her first Saturday's like this.  I wish a shop close to us would start that again.

Here's Boneta's beauty.  Hand pieced flower hexagons.  She said it's kind of like the Seven Sister's block.  It's lovely and she is going to hand quilt it.  It makes me want to make one so badly!  I love this one.

Here's a beautiful heirloom found and recovered by Susan.  Cathy B said it's probably from the 1860 to 1870's.  See ladies, it's important to put a label on for future generations....

Here's the lovely butterfly quilt. Some of us helped make the sweet butterfly blocks but Judy B put it all together.  This quilt will be given away in October and is for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Here's a community service quilt made by Jackie.

This is the back of the quilt.

A community service quilt made by Glenda.

Another one by Glenda.

This is a top quilted by Jackie. The back is Minky fabric and is going to be a gift. This is our new member, Karissa's project.

This one is Mary P. first quilt.

Here's a pinwheel quilt she made for a cousin.

Hmm, I wonder whose house blocks these are????  Must be Martha.  Oh yeah, that's right, she's doing another little house quilt and if you want to participate and exchange blocks, give her a call. or let her know.

Well, that's it for another month, get busy and bring some show and tell for next month.  Til then, happy stitching.

July meeting at Thomas Sewing Center

The July meeting was held at a local quilt shop, Thomas Sewing Center in Mesquite, Tx.  They did a demonstration for us of some machine tools and gave out door prizes too.  It was a fun night.  They demo'd a quilt binding attachment and a circle maker tool for the Janome sewing machines.

Here's a little show and tell from the meeting...

Martha loves houses and here's one of her wall hangings.

This is the back of the quilt above.

Here's a Selvage Christmas tree wall hanging.

Gee, I wonder who's house quilt this is????  Hmm, must be another one from Martha!

And, another one too.

Here's some community service quilts from Sandy.

Please forgive me, I don't remember is this one is Sandy's or Annalee's.....but isn't it cute?

That's all for now, til next time. Happy Stitching.
