November Happenings

Ok, girls, sorry for the delay. My internet connection was out for a few weeks.  Here's what happened in November!

Here's the mug rugs of the month. This month's theme was prints. These were so cute!

Here's the wonderful Christmas swap blocks.  Love those Dresden plates.

Our guest speaker was Debbe Sheridan. She did a great talk about Wool Dying. Great info! At the top of the page, there is a new tab with the info on wool dying that Debbe passed out at the meeting.  Thank you, Debbe, for the great program and the good information!

Willie was the lucky winner of the raffle quilt that Jackie G. and her friends of the library made.

 Karen and a group of her ladies make these little bags for children in the hospital. If you have any children's print fabrics, she would gladly take them off your hands.

Linda W is still working on her little quilts.  There are 12 quilts in the book and they snap onto an outside quilted frame....

Martha made this lovely little quilt for a new niece.  It was quilted by Sandra of Plum Good quilting. She and her daughter came last month and talked to us....

We had some wonderful projects done over the last month.  We are now looking forward to the Christmas season and our Christmas party. Please bring your Christmas quilts for show and tell.  Bring your finished blocks for the Dresden swap and your blocks for the Christmas present quilt to give to the church.  Also, bring a Christmas fat quarter to play Martha's  fat quarter game.  Til next time, happy quilting.

October Happenings

 Hello, everyone.  Here's what happened at the October meeting.

The October mug rugs were so cute!  This month's theme was any shape other than squares or rectangles.  There were some great ideas here....

Here are the mug rug themes for the remaining months of the mug rug exchange:

November – use an image pre-printed on the fabric.  See an example here (a flamingo) http://opus-gluei.blogspot.com/2011/05/challenge-102-pinwheels.html

December – anything you want!  Have you had an idea all year and haven’t been able to use that idea yet?  Now’s the time.  It’s Christmas but you don’t have to do Christmas.  Cut up a block you made years ago, or make a new block; use part of the mug rug you made in January and part of the leftovers from the one you made in June; make something you’ve been wanting to try; copy one you’ve seen done already that you just loved;  or give it a theme of your own choosing!

Here's what our Christmas blocks are this year.  The pointed Dresden.  Use the red or green background fabrics that are in the packet. A pattern is supplied to you in this packet and you use red and green fabrics out of your stash to creat the plates of the dresden.  Martha and Sharon have a few more packages if you want to put together more.  I already made mine and they were fun to do....



We had a wonderful guest speaker this month. Megan Martin did our program and it was on selvedge edges.  She showed us how she did her blocks and ideas.

Now for some show and tell from our members:

Martha made a tree skirt.

Martha always has her little dogs somewhere on the quilt.  This is her label on the tree skirt.

Sharon created a cute bag.

Daphne showed a Log Cabin quilt. She quilted this the Marti Michell way of quilting part of the quilt while it is not all together, then putting the quilt together and using strips to hide where she attached them.

 A closer look, I love the colors she used.

Sandy made these three quick table runners.  The link to the pattern is on the right sidebar.  Look under the tutorials section, a fun and easy tablerunner by Utah State and the next one too called a Quick and Easy Tablerunner.  They are both the same one, just with a different look to them.  Have fun with these. As you can see, Sandy made some really cute ones.  This pattern is great for fabric you just don't want to cut.

Jessica and Ruth worked on this lovely Christmas quilt at retreat.  Great teamwork! It was so nice to see how a Mom and daughter worked together. 

Helen worked on this one at retreat too.  Lovely.

Here'a a closeup of some of the blocks.

A great little iron caddy. It lays out flat to make an ironing surface too.  This would make a great Christmas gift for a quilting buddy...

Jackie made this little wallhanging at retreat.  Great colors...

A close up of some deer corn and a bag that has the deer corn already inside. This can be put in the microwave and used for a sore neck, back, etc. or put it in the freezer and use it that way too.  These make great Christmas gifts!  Also in the picture is a Christmas Dresden plate ready to be sewn onto background fabric. Glenda made 5 of these plates out of two fat quarters to make a Christmas table runner.  This dresden plate is fun to make!
