Apples for September

Here's some of the Row by Row Quilts that are being made....these are so much fun!

Martha has been working hard to do her Wheel of Fortune Quilt.  Lots of paper to pull out but it sure is worth it. This is going to be a beautiful quilt!

These were the little Covers for Kids quilts we worked on last month.  I think the final count was lucky 13 amd Rita even quilted hers!  Way to go, Rita!

Our fearless leaders this year. Judy and Diane.  Judy is giving up her notebook but has a lot of great ideas for programs.

Nancy will be our next victim, I mean leader!  We know she will do a great job. 

One of Diane's heart blocks.  I think Glenda M. made this one.  The spools are our trademark or whatever you call it.  We used to wear name tags and they were 4 spools like this.  Our banner is displayed each year at the Dallas Quilt Show, if you get a chance, be sure and look at it next time.  For all you seasoned Sew Whater's, pull out your name tag and wear them next month to show our new members!  (Please.)

Diane handed out fabric flowers to members that did programs or helped out during the year.  It takes a lot of friendly people to have a good time!

This will be our Christmas block.  The instructions don't tell you but please include two extra 3" blocks from each color (the ribbon and the package) so they can be used for a border. 

This quilt was made from Christmas blocks I won back in 2000.   I passed out the pattern in this meeting, if you didn't get one, please send me an email or comment on this post and I'll get you one.

Cindy made this great bag!  Very cute.

Cindy won these blocks last year and made this great little quilt.  The stockings were made from red wool.

Rita's got a very colorful quilt.

Look at this beauty.  She worked on this at the last retreat and we saw some of it come together.

July Meeting

The July meeting was at the church and it was a working meeting too. We sewed together kits given to us by the Dallas Quilt Guild.  We had our regular meeting first, show and tell and then we got busy.  Here's some of the things you missed if you didn't come to the meeting....

Martha displayed her Row by Row quilt and passed out the row for August. The bottom row is called Hot Sidewalks.  Pretty fitting title for August, huh!

Here's Joyce's version of the Row by Row...It's looking good, huh?  These are happy, little quilts and I'm enjoying watching them grow each month.

Here's some more Summer blocks. August will be the drawing for these blocks so hurry up and finish and turn them into Cathey or Lois.  We will see who gets to win these cute blocks next month.  Won't this look really cute on a little boy's bed?   

Now, for some great Show and Tell!

Sharon worked on this at retreat. This is called French Rose, I think....It's lovely and I really like the colors she used.  Great job, Sharon!

This one is her cupcake quilt.  A few of us in this group got together and did cupcake blocks, then we exchanged them. This is Sharon's little top that came out of that exchange.

Martha has done a few One Block Wonder Quilts and they just keep on getting prettier and prettier.  These are gifts....Ok, Martha, I want one too!

 This last one was Judy B's quilt.  We made these boots a few years back but did them in Christmas colors for our Christmas block exchange.  I was one of the lucky winners of some of those blocks and I'll be bringing that quilt next month for you to see. Judy made this for St. Jude's Fundraising Gala.. This is wonderful, Judy. I know the kids will love the boots and the parents will like the bluebonnets!

These last pictures are of some of the members that were present at the meeting. I'm afraid I did not get any action shots of members working and I didn't get any pictures of quilt tops worked on during the meeting. I guess you guys will just have to fire me, huh?  You will see the little tops at our next meeting because most of us took them home to finish. 

Next month is our annual August picnic.  We elect or volunteer for next year. If you are interested in doing anything special next year for the group, please talk to Judy or Diane and let them know.  See you at the next meeting.

Places to look for fabric

I told you about a new website at the meeting but I forgot to tell you about it on my last post.  This website is called Find My Fabric. I haven't used it and don't know how good it is so someone needs to try it out. 

If you are looking for a fabric and can't find it locally, go to this site and see if you can find what you're looking for and let us know what you find out. 

Another website that  I'll put on the blog is called Quiltshops.com. It is 250 shops that you can also look for fabric on.  I have used this site alot and love it. 

You can access both of these sites by clicking on them from the right hand side of the blog...websites of interest. 

I will be adding other things to the blog periodically, so check back often.

June 2011 meeting-Lots of community service going on!

This month's meeting was a working meeting.  We had our usual business meeting, show and tell and then we got down to work.  A big thank you to all that helped!  We got alot done!

Joyce's granddaughter likes this fabric and Joyce doesn't have any in her stash?  Does it look familiar to any of you?  Do you have any extra?  If so, please contact Joyce.

Ruth worked on this quilt at retreat.  She found our real quick that she did not like doing flying geese the way that the pattern called for.  There are alot of different ways to do flying geese and I have several tools to show concerning these.  Do you have a favorite method, if so, please share it with the group...

We had a good meeting and got alot of work done. For those of you that missed coming, we had a great time working together to get our community service work done. What's that old saying, several hands make light work? I don't remember it exactly but it was true in this case. There were 46 walker bags cut out and all of them were worked on. We finished about 10 completely and the others were sent home for the members to finish up. We had a great time visiting while we were working. Several people sewed, while others cut, trimmed, turned, put together or ironed. Everyone had a job and the work went fast. Thanks to everyone that came and helped !!! We get our individual quilts and sewing done all year and we have a good time doing that but it doesn't hurt to give to others less fortunate than ourselves. If you did not participate this time, there will be other ways to contribute during the year. I will be passing out more walker bag kits to sew together. I will be asking the members to make them all this year. Won't you consider making one or two during the year??? They are easy and quick to make. If you have light weight left over batting and don't need it, please consider donating it for kits to make these walker bags. It takes light weight batting that is cut 13" X 33" and it would be helpful too if you cut it to that size. All help is appreciated! Also, if you have any fabric you no longer want or need and you want to donate it for this, please bring it to the meeting.
Next month, we will be working on Covers for Kids and the kits will be given to us by the guild. We do not have to quilt these little tops, we just make the tops. Although, if you want to take it home to quilt it and finish it, it is very helpful too. Please come and help us and share the fun of doing something helpful for others that need our help and talents.
